About Department

Welcome to Department of Physics

Physics department was established in 1956 with UG classes, later PG classes were started in 1965. The department offers specialization in Electronics, sanctions faulty posts are eight and at present working faculty are seven in the department. All faculty members have doctorate degree. The department has been awarded PG grant several times by UGC. At entry level the total number of students at UG level in present session is 150 and at PG level are 20 students.
The board of studies design the syllabus at the University level for all the affiliated colleges. The physics department has no autonomy in the syllabus design.
The Physics department has itsdepartmental library at PG level comprising around 1500 books and has subscribed several national and international journals of repute, oneadvanced scientific well-equipped computer lab, 5 laboratories (3UG and 2 PG) and one smart room. Faculties use internet laptop and over head projector and LCD projector in teaching learning as and when required.
Each student of MSc Final is allotted a project through counselling based on latest development in the field of electronics. Teachers interact with students and give information of various competitive examination like NET, GATE, JEST, CAT etc. they also send recommendation sought by national institutes like BARC, PRL, IITs, IISc etc. for selection for JRF and higher studies.
Teacher participates in activities, in Faculty development program. Faculty members are regularly attending national and internationalseminars, conferences, orientations and refresher courses. They are also getting paper published at regular interval.
Physics department has organised the following conference / training program-

  • The training program on "Synthesis Design, Operation, Maintenance and Repair of Solar Photovoltaic system" February 2006 sponsored by the solar energy centre, ministry of non-conventional energy sources Government of India New Delhi.
  • International Symposium on Advances in Physics, February 25, 2006.
  • The faculty members are extensively involved in research activities and many research scholarsare associated in the department.

Several students of PG classes get good employment in Teaching, Industries and Research Organisations. The eminentalumni of the department is Prof R.S. Sirohi, former Director IIT, Delhi.
