About Department

Welcome to Department of History

History is the study of growth and development of state, polity, society, economy, art, science and philosophy. Historians evaluate and analyze the past to investigate its impact on present and to utilize it for making the world a better place. Historians are well known for advising the government on various issues such as welfare, socio-economic reforms and to reduce inequality, injustice and crime. The study of history can provide valuable knowledge for making decisions in life as History is supposed to makes us wise. The History Department of NAS was set up in 1952. It has grown in strength over the years and its faculty comprises of highly committed and dynamic members with specializations and interests in diverse fields. The students in the History department are a vibrant and bright lot. The Department makes a constant effort to encourage students to be creative thinkers who can offer innovative solutions to problems arising in the community. In this direction, the Department organizes students' seminars, group discussions, Paper Presentations. The Department is strongly committed to imparting education that produces socially responsible, disciplined and sensitive citizens. Presently the department offers History as major course for UG and PG students and as minor courses to UG students of other Departments as well. The department offers courses in all the three periods of Ancient, Medieval and Modern Indian history along with courses on histories of other countries. The syllabus is comprehensive and of immense utility for various competitive examinations.

This undertakes all periods of History-Ancient, Medieval and Modern and also Indo-Italian History.
